Add cycling nodes to your cycling routes

| Pascal Vleugels | |

Bike junctions are a useful tool to easily cycle a route. The signs with cycle junctions are a recognisable element in the landscape. Research shows that about 25% of the Dutch population has used the cycle junctions (P30) at least once. All the more reason to add these nodes to the route module as well.

The nodes look like this

On the route pages, the nodes occupy a prominent place. The map immediately shows which nodes are available along the route. In the sightseeing overview of the route, the cycling nodes are included as stopovers. For mobile users, there is a handy overview of the cycle junctions, which can easily be taken with you on your bicycle.

How cycling nodes work

In the Open Data Platform (ODP), the nodes are made available as datasets. These can then be used when composing a route. In the current situation, a route can be composed by means of a route line (GPX). This can then be enriched with "waypoints".

A stopover can be a POI or a junction. Initially, only cycling nodes are supported. At a later stage, it may also be possible to support walking nodes or sailing nodes, but there is not yet a nationwide dataset for this.

Regular updates

Regular updates are made from the Destination Cycling Platform. A node may disappear, or be merged, or a new node may be introduced. These updates will also be implemented in the Open Data Platform, so that the list of nodes is always up to date.
