AVG-proof cookie notification
With the new cookie notification, website visitors can specify which cookies they want to allow.
Give visitors the choice of which cookies to allow
When a visitor visits your website for the first time, he will see a notification that cookies are being used. The visitor then has two choices:
1. I accept all cookies
If the user chooses to accept all cookies, the pop-up will disappear and all available cookies will be placed.
2. I want to set my own cookie preferences
If the user chooses to set their own preferences, an extensive pop-up is shown in which the user can decide which cookies are/are not placed.

The pop-up with the cookie notification cannot be closed. The website can be used as usual, but the visitor MUST make a choice. Until the user makes a choice, only functional cookies are placed.
Type of cookies
In the cookie notification, you have the option to divide cookies into "types". This allows you to bundle a number of cookies into one package that can be switched on/off.
We offer the following types as standard:
1. Functional
These cookies allow the website to function properly. These cookies cannot be switched off for the user. Think of the possibility of logging in or adding favourites (as an anonymous user). Google Analytics' anonymous tracking also falls under functional cookies.
2. Analytical
These cookies allow us to measure statistics from this website. This could be the "non-anonymous" version of Google Analytics or activation of services such as YouTube or Vimeo.
3. Marketing
These cookies allow external services to enrich the website. A good example is the Facebook tracking pixel or Hotjar, for example.
Per website, you can set which types there are and which cookies fall under which type. This can be set via Google Tag Manager.
Set cookie preferences
If the user chooses to control which cookies can be placed, an extensive pop-up will open.
Per cookie type, you can see which cookies are placed and what these cookies do. If "Save preferences" is clicked, the preferences are saved and the pop-up disappears.
When setting up the cookie notification, a link to the cookie preferences page is also added in the footer of the website. This way, the user can always adjust preferences later.

Set up and configure cookie notification
As administrator of the website, you have all options to fill/adapt the content of the cookie notification, create cookie types and fill in the details of the cookies. Should a new cookie be added, you also have the option of displaying the cookie notification again for ALL users, as consent must be requested again.
Need a cookie alert?
We get many questions about whether a cookie notification is needed and how extensive it should be. We have compiled a handy chart, which you can use to determine whether you need a cookie notification on your website.
