Use a widget to share your current content with others

A widget makes it easy to display your content on someone else's website. Think for example of a current agenda. This ensures your content gets a wider reach and others are not burdened with creating and collecting up-to-date content. You can also choose to display other people's content on your own website, for example the current weather. By using good widgets, you provide visitors with the most valuable and relevant information without having to do much editing yourself.

Widget for website manager

As website manager, you can add your own widget to your website to load content from another source. Think, for example, of a weather widget that allows you to display the latest weather on your website.

As website manager, you can also offer your own widgets with content from your own website. Others can then use these widgets on their own websites. Think of entrepreneurs in your destination, for example.

Widget for entrepreneurs

As an entrepreneur, you want to show visitors to your website what great things there are to do in the area. Using a widget makes this easy. The entrepreneur does not have to search for activities or keep an events calendar up to date. This content is automatically loaded via a widget. This widget can be provided by the city and/or regional marketing organisation.

Current weather

For Noordwijk, we developed a weather widget that allows visitors to view the latest weather. Especially for a beach destination, it is nice to know whether the sun is shining or whether there is a nice breeze for surfing. The weather, combined with a live webcam stream gives you a good idea what the beach weather looks like.

Outings in the region

Anyone who enjoys soaking up culture outside the municipal borders used to spend some time finding out about regional gems. With RegioRadar Eindhoven, the region's leisure offerings are now accessible in one place. From Oirschot to Deurne, from Reusel- de Mierden to Groote Heide, for young and old. Using the Eindhoven Regioradar widget, regional partners and entrepreneurs can put the latest leisure activities in the Eindhoven region on their own websites.

Real-time availability information

Want to know if that nice B&B is available in your holiday period? For Waterland of Friesland, we developed an availability widget that shows you the current price and availability of accommodation on a calendar. Using a connector, we automatically link the right widget to the location in Base.

How the widget works

A widget is actually a kind of portal. A widget shows content from another source. So you should always redirect to a page where the real content can be read and viewed.

You need a few things:

• The source
• Widget code
• Website where the widget is placed

The source

The content in a widget has to come from somewhere and it has to refer somewhere. One of those sources could be Base. We can load the data from Base directly into a widget. You can configure which data you want to show in the widget. For example:

• All events within a specific period
  E.g.: All events taking place in the coming week
• Locations from a number of predefined categories
  E.g.: All restaurants and pubs in the area
• All routes in the area
  E.g.: All cycle routes in the municipality

Widget code

If someone wants to place a widget on their own website, they can do so by copying a piece of code and pasting it into the website. This requires almost no technical knowledge. This code ensures that the right widget with the right content can be loaded.

Website where the widget is placed

The website into which the widget code is pasted displays all the content that has been set up in the widget code. The website visitor can view the content and click through to a deeper-lying page. This deeper-lying page can always be viewed on the source website. The visitor then leaves the original website.
